WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? Anyone who wishes to observe the night sky and learn about the techniques involved in doing so. WHAT WILL I LEARN? By the end of this course you will be able to: • Use the Plough as a signpost to find other stars • Know which stars never set in your latitude • Find and recognise the bright stars and main constellations visible at different times of the year • Understand about seasons and why the sky changes • Plan observations - knowing what you’ll see • Make an observation – recording what you see HOW WILL I LEARN? You will learn through a combination of teacher input, group exercises, simulations and short homework assignments to explore the skies for yourself. WHAT DOES THIS COURSE LEAD TO? You may wish to study the follow-on course ‘Introduction to Astronomy’ which is also on offer through the Adult Education department, please refer to the Adult Education prospectus for more information.
